Dhwanishristi Foundation with partners works towards screening of school children across Karnataka for avoidable eye problems, We support access to spectacles and further care with minimal impact to the family. We work towards minimising impact of poor vision of the child for their future.
Who We Are
We are a group of like-minded individuals working together on activities within our communities. Our first project is addressing Avoidable Blindness among children aged 5–15 in government, government-aided and residential schools across Karnataka.
Our first screenings (before the Foundation was formally registered) covered Bengaluru city and four taluks in Hassan district.
Dhwanishristi Foundation was officially registered, and the journey deepened — expanding coverage in Hassan and beyond.
In collaboration with Vaishnavi Lions Service Foundation, we expanded into Tumkur and supported screenings in Ramanagara.
To ensure students at primary and secondary schools are efficiently screened and provided with the necessary care to preserve and restore their vision.
No student is left behind in our drive to reduce avoidable blindness.
What We Do
A comprehensive approach to children’s eye health — from screening to treatment to education.
Systematic vision screening camps at government and aided schools across Karnataka. Our trained team uses technology-assisted tools to identify refractive errors and other conditions quickly and accurately.
Children from Classes 1 through 10 who don't do well in primary screening undergo further assessment by our trained optometrists, and spectacles are prescribed where vision can be improved
Children who need surgical or advanced non-surgical care are referred to our network of partner hospitals and specialists — ensuring no child falls through the cracks after screening.
Raising awareness about eye health, hygiene and early warning signs among children, teachers and parents. Empowered communities lead to faster detection and better outcomes.
Building a strong network with local doctors, NGOs, government bodies, and medical colleges to create a self-sustaining ecosystem of children’s eye health across the state.
Data-driven research on childhood vision impairment patterns in Karnataka — informing better policy and ensuring our interventions remain evidence-based and scalable.
Why It Matters
Millions of children across India sit in classrooms unable to read the blackboard, not because they lack intelligence — but because no one has ever checked their eyesight. Without early intervention, this leads to avoidable academic failure and, in many cases, permanent visual impairment that could have been prevented with a simple eye test.
“A pair of spectacles can transform a child’s entire academic journey. This is one of the highest-impact, lowest-cost interventions in public health.”
The Process
We partner with government and aided schools. After obtaining the necessary permissions, coordinating with teachers and headmasters to set up screening camps.
Our trained team screens every child in classes 1–10 using the PEEK Acuity smartphone app (peekvision.org) — a globally validated tool used in 12+ countries. The process is quick, comfortable, and completely free.
Children who need corrective lenses are provided the same within 4-6 weeks after QC of the same
Children needing specialist care are referred to networked hospitals. We follow up to ensure every child receives the full care they need. The funds that are raised help in this process significantly to make a difference to the child
Voices from the Field
Real stories from children, teachers and parents whose lives were changed by a simple eye test.
“My daughter had been squinting for years and we thought it was normal. After the Dhwanishristi screening camp, she got spectacles the same week. Her teacher says she is a completely different student now.”
“We had a student who kept making mistakes copying from the blackboard. We assumed he was inattentive. The screening revealed severe myopia. With spectacles, he is now one of our top performers.”
“I never knew I could not see well because I had nothing to compare with. When I put on my spectacles for the first time, I could read every letter on the board. I was very happy.”
See It in Action
We use the globally validated PEEK Acuity smartphone application for primary screening — the same tool used in over 12 countries worldwide to bring eye care to underserved communities.
